Kinetics of pro-inflammatory cytokine responses in the ileum following murine A. butzleri infection. Gnotobiotic IL-10−/− mice were generated by antibiotic treatment and orally infected either with A. butzleri strain CCUG 30485 (circles) or strain C1 (squares). Uninfected gnotobiotic IL-10−/− mice served as negative control (black diamonds). Concentrations (pg per mg ileal tissue) of a TNF, b IL-6, c MCP-1 and d IFN-γ were determined in supernatant of ex vivo ileal biopsies at day 6 p.i. (filled symbols) and day 16 p.i. (open symbols).
