Deletion of SPI-13 does not significantly impact pathogenesis of S. Enteritidis in chickens. One-day-old chickens were orally infected with 8.5 log10 CFU of WT (black bars) or ΔSPI-13 mutant (gray bars). Mean total log10 CFU/g of tissue in the cecum (a), small intestine (b), liver (c), spleen (d), and mean intracellular log10 CFU/g of both strains in the cecum (e) and small intestine (f). Each time point represents the mean + SEM of four chickens. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were identified using two-sample t test not assuming equal variance for each time point
