Intestinal E. coli loads in C. jejuni infected mice lacking IL-23p19, IL-22 or IL-18. Conventional wildtype (WT), IL-23p19−/−, IL-22−/− and IL-18−/− mice were perorally infected with C. jejuni strain ATCC 43431 by gavage at days 0, 1 and 2. Intestinal commensal E. coli loads (CFU colony forming units per gram) were determined in luminal samples derived from the a duodenum, b terminal ileum, c colon and homogenates of d mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN) at day 14 postinfection by culture. Numbers of mice harboring commensal E. coli out of the total number of analyzed animals are given in parentheses. Medians (black bars) and levels of significance (p values) determined by Mann–Whitney U test are indicated. Data were pooled from three independent experiments
