Schematic outline of the experimental design. In the control group, birds were left untreated and fed the basal diet with no supplementation. In the DON and DOM-1 treated groups, birds were fed for 5 weeks with either DON or DOM-1. On day 14 of age, each bird within groups 4, 5 and 6 was orally inoculated into the crop with 108 CFU of C. jejuni (NCTC 12744)
