HtrA-mediated casein cleavage is independent of calcium ions. a 10 µg casein, composed of αS1-, αS2- and β-casein, was incubated with 200 ng HpHtrA and increasing concentrations of CaCl2 ranging from 25 to 400 µM as indicated. b Casein and HpHtrA were incubated with increasing concentrations of EDTA ranging from 25 to 400 µM. After 4 h incubation at 37 °C, samples were separated by SDS PAGE and proteins were stained with Coomassie G250.
